Odisha’s Satya S Tripathi has been appointed as the new head of New York’s UNEP head-office and Assistant Secretary-General. United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) which was formed in the year 1972 under United Nations functions for environmental change, responsibilities and a leading agency at the world body focused on environmental conditions.
Apart from that the UNEP exercises cover a wide range of issues with respect to the atmosphere, marine and terrestrial ecosystems, environmental governance and green economy.

Mr. Tripathi was also a part of United Nations and worked for it since the year 1998 in Europe, Asia and African countries on human rights and legal affairs. He’s the Ex-Director & Executive Head of UN Office for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries Coordination in Indonesia, as well as for the United Nations Recovery Coordinator for the $7 billion post-tsunami and post-conflict recovery efforts in Aceh and Nias.
