The Second ODIA Captain of The Indian Football Team Is Now the Woman Footballer Of The Year

The conservative mentality of people has always ignored a woman’s potential and enthusiasm for sports. But Odisha’s Sports women have displayed their mettle in sports with their achievements. The year 2016 will always be remembered as a year of Sports Women’s achievement in the history of Odisha .From Olympian Dutee chand to Srabani Nanda and Lilima Minz to Indian Cricketer Sukanya Parida , many Odia sports women brought laurels not only to their state but also for the Nation.


Sasmita Mallick is one such name in the list. When the 1.26 Billion people of this country are waiting to see India in FIFA, this Kendrapada girl has declared as the women Footballer of the year by . She has been serving Indian National women’ football team since 2006. Sasmita who made her international debut in 2007 and never looked back since then, represented India in many International tournaments.
She has started her football career from Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel & became the 2nd Odia footballer after Sradhanjali Samantray to become the captain of Indian National Football team in 2011.Her achievement is not over yet…. No one can ever forget the back to back 5 GOALS in India’s First game against Maldeevs where Indian Team beat Maldeevs with a huge margin of 11-0 India in Incheon Asian Games 2014.


Sasmita Mallick who plays a vital role in the Indian football team helped in India’s Gold medal victory in South Asian Games 2016.

 


The 27 year mid fielder was part of the 2010 and 2016 South Asian Games and back to back SAFF Women’s Championship winning squad of India. The Indian national football team used to be among the top in Asia. Today countries like Japan and Korea enjoy the spotlight, while India plays in the shadows.
As she has been successfully maintaining the glorious football legacy of Odisha which has started by Sradhanjali Samantray, we can only hope that she will set her soccer goals high and don’t stop till she get there in FIFA.
