The frequent transfer of govt officers, specially bureaucrats during election time is common in every state in India. But it seems like in Sundargarh district the case is bit more complicated and a lot more politically influenced.
And people of Sundargarh are not very happy about it. Recently the govt. of Odisha has trasnferred IAS officer Surendra Kumar Meena from the post of Sundargarh collector and deputed Smart City CEO Rashmita Panda, who’s already incharge of 2 major posts in RMC and RSCL.
Surendra Kumar Meena, a 2012-batch IAS officer, has been transferred and posted as Managing Director of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC). But what’s creating the buzz in the city is the reason behind this quick transfer and giving additional charges to a single officer, who is already burdened with 2 of the important posts.
The transfer not only created the impression to the public that it is clearly a decision made by a powerful politician from the ruling party Biju Janata Dal but another reason might be the honest bureaucrat who doesn’t seem to
be complywith their[unnamed leader] wishes.
This incident reminds us of Haryana’s Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) Ashok Khemka, who has been transferred for the 50th time in the last 24 years.
The kind of work Surendra Meena has done in Sundargarh and the only price his honesty should come with is appreciation. But as per the local people, Odisha government’s treatment of its some of the honest bureaucrats speaks volumes about its vested political gains.
