The existing name of very famous Rourkela Ring Road may get changed soon. Truly! you heard it right.
This has been demanded by Odisha Nagarika Bichara Manch and there’s a quite interesting story behind their demand. Yet, before that let us remind you about the current change where street names have been changed. In the last two years four roads have been changed in Lutyen’s Delhi like – Race Corse Road to Lok Kalyan Marg and Aurangzeb Road to A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road.
But this is the very first time any organisation demanded to change any road name in Western Odisha and that too Rourkela Ringroad which is one of it’s kind and known for connecting structure to relatively every place of Rourkela.
Earlier this month Odisha Nagarik Bichara Manch has discussed and
given memorandum to Rourkela ADM Monisha Banerjee, Smart City CEO
Rashmita Panda and Chairman of Rourkela Steel Plant to change the road name to ‘KHARABELA MARG’.
As per a report ONCM want it to be changed after the legendary emperor of Odisha Kharabela, who ruled somewhere around first or second century BCE and also one of the strongest ruler of ancient Kalinga. The organisation proposed the change by saying that today’s young generation of Rourkela and Odisha detached from their history and the change-makers of the state.
The millennials are not aware of what our ancestors had to go through to get here. According to Archaeologist Bhagwanlal Indraji, Emperor Kharavel mastered in various branches of learning, including royal correspondence, currency, finance, civil and religious laws.
A copy of the proposal letter has been sent to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the organisations want it be changed on 29th June 2018.
