o much of chest-thumping with the claim that we’re the new sports capital of India. From organising million-dollar sports events to sponsoring national teams, no doubt that Odisha has come a long way but still many miles to go!
Looking all around, from banners to hoardings and of course the team India Hockey jersey, you’ll see the name of Odisha. But here in the state, the truth is far from reality.
Odisha’s first-ever woman football skipper Subharani Das is now distributing newspapers and working as a hawker for her livelihood.
That’s not it, for some extra money she’s selling cow dungs and paper containers.
Imagine, a state which is sponsoring an entire national team couldn’t do justice to its first woman captain who leads her team into national level championships back in 1992.
You’ll be surprised to know that she approached the sports and Youth Services Department for allowance but didn’t get any response.
Of course, this couldn’t get the high TRP or media highlight to the state govt. as compared to 100’s of ‘MO-Yojana’.
The captain who once headed the Odisha Women’s Football Team in the prestigious Federation Cup organised in Guwahati by All India Football Federation is now a struggler.
