After a viral video on social media, Odisha police has arrested a 26-year-old guy from Rayagada for disrespecting and burning pictures of Hindu gods and posting it on social media.
The main accused named Agasti Garada, along with few other men, first worshipped the picture of Dr BR Ambedkar and later burnt the pictures of Hindu deities.
The video went viral like a wildfire as soon as it surfaced on social media. While many demanded police to take strong action against the accused persons, so far police has arrested only the prime accused Garada under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) unlawful assembly (143A), injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class (295, 295A), and criminal conspiracy to commit an offence (120B).
Sarbana Bibek (Superintendent of Police Rayagada) said, “We got information on a communal sensitive video being promoted on social media. After observing and investigating that video, we were informed a complaint has been filed in Rayagada thana on the basis of that video.
So, on the basis of the complaint we registered a case. The case number is 345/19, u/s 153A, 295, 295A, 34 and 120B of the IPC. I also appeal to others not to share this video. Sharing communal sensitive video is also a crime.”
