There’s a small village in Puri which is 20 kms away from Bhubaneswar, connecting Puri to Bhubaneswar and famous for its stunning applique work called Chandua.
The creative glory and the history of this famous art form is just amazing. Recently Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has declared that Pipili Chandua (appliqué) would get a place on the railway website IRCTC through the e-marketing system. And not to forget everyday nearly half a million people book tickets on IRCTC which excludes the people who check the live status.
Suresh Prabhu had attended party worker’s meeting in Pipili before national executive meeting of his party and interacted with appliqué traders and also discussed about their digital transaction. IRCTC is looking for a rise to a quantum jump to e-commerce business and adding Pipili Chandua is not only going to be helpful for the railways but also for Chandua makers.
So we can say it’s a Win-Win situation for both. We all are wishing to see this famous form of art soon on IRCTC!
