Someone will be watching the next time a lustful youth passes a lewd comment at a women. You will not be alone when taking a walk on a lonely street. It’s a good start for Odisha when twin city police proposed to install CCTV cameras at educational institutions, working women hostels, bus stands, shopping malls, places of congregation and in short allover the city.
To counter increasing incidents of sexual abuse and moral policing against women twin city police came up with this initiative. As indicated by authority 2,000 CCTVs would be installed in Bhubaneswar and remaining 1,000 CCTVs in Cuttack. And all these will be actualized through the Nirbhaya Scheme.
It is common for criminal elements to pass lewd remarks at girls, particularly near educational institutes. Almost all women and girls face similar situations at public places such as bus terminals and market places. If well monitored, the CCTVs can be used to keep a close watch and ultimately with the help of a rapid action unit, deter such crooks.
Late however it’s an inviting stride by Odisha police. More CCTVs will be introduced though out Odisha checking each nukkad and spots to defend ladies against these wrongdoings.
