After a decade old demand to build a new Brahmani bridge at Panposh, finally the project is taking it’s shape as the notice for bidding has been published in NHAI site and work will start in the month of May. Â National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has mentioned in the notice that the completion of work will take 18months and a total cost of Rs.476.56 Crore will be invested.

Last year On April 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the second bridge over the river, a long-standing demand of the city. After Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray had publicly expressed his displeasure over the delay and had even boycotted the party’s program had been sulking and not only that; Mr. Ray has also stayed away from all the party programs due to this reason. After multiple meetings with the union ministers, the cloud of uncertainty over the 2nd Brahmani bridge is finally seems to have cleared.

What is surprising is NHAI issued the new tender on the day of Holi, which is a holiday! As per the reports of NewIndianExpress, there will be 2 new bridges and each will have 3-lane tracks and the new bridge work will be done under the surveillance of PMO.
