Now the city airport becomes the third airport of Odisha to get license from DGCA to function like any other big airports of India.
This will help the smart city people to get connected to the rest of the India said DGCA.
Rourkela aerodrome which was still waiting to become a full fledged airport has gone through many ups and downs in the last few years. After the failure of the central govt.s UDAN scheme and AIR Odisha’s inability to function in Rourkela, this project seemed difficult to kickstart again.
The owner of Rourkela Airport is the Steel Authority Of India and a memorandum was singed between SAIL & Airport Authority of India earlier to establish an airport in Smart city.
Currently there’re 2 airports in Odisha. One is Biju Patnaik Airport at Bhubaneswar & another is VSS Aiport in Jharsuguda.
