If Brahmani bridge will collapse then it will be the most catastrophic bridge failures occurred in the history of Odisha. The main bridge of the city which connects the steel city to the outer world which can collapse at any time with the present condition. If tomorrow the bridge will fall apart, the possible cause of bridge failure will not be sloppy maintenance, it will be the both the center as well as state govt. and the negligence of the issue. Only the war of words we can see between BJP and BJD both while the bridge is at it’s worst condition in decades.
There has been an inordinate delay in the construction of the high level bridge over river Brahmani. We demand the Union Government and state govt. to construct the Brahmani bridge in Rourkela without any further delay as the risk is escalating at double digits and delay would mean denial of infrastructural facilities even after 70 years of Independence. Human life is at stake and Rourkela is watching you closely and will answer back in the upcoming elections.
8th July 2015 [Times of India] edition stated the following after the visit of Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, “The much-awaited second bridge over the Brahmani will soon be a reality. Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray and Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram (both BJP) met Gadkari in New Delhi recently in this regard, party sources said. According to the sources, the existing bridge, which is considered the lifeline of Rourkela, has outlived its utility as it was constructed about 60 years back. The people of Rourkela have been demanding construction of a second bridge for last 10 years.” And people are still waiting for that day when the blame game politics will over and this generation will be able to see the new bridge.
In the meanwhile we came across this. Once in a while in this overly-materialistic and competitive world, we all come across something so special that it restores our faith in humanity. This video of our kind Rourkela traffic policeman helping people to cross the road on Brahmani bridge is an eye opener for all of us. The video shot by Odisha Television reporter Satyananda Mohanty and uploaded on social media.
The kind act by the traffic police should appreciated by netizens of Rourkela.
