Operation Smile was a brainchild of former Ghaziabad SSP, Dharmendra Singh, which turned out to be a successful step in tracing missing children.  Taking inspiration from Ghaziabad police’s ‘Operation Smile’, in which 227 children missing from the area were rescued in 2014 from different parts of the country in one month, the Union home ministry asked all states and union territories to start a similar drive.
