What’s a compulsory subject in the govt. schools in Odisha! You may think for a while before answering and it’s obvious. Why we always lack behind in promoting our own culture and inventions; whether it’s Rasagola or something else.
While we are busy in distributing free stuffs and the govt. school teachers and govt. is fighting over every single issue in almost every 3 months; Chhattisgarh govt. has taken an appreciable step which will make every Odisha people happy. From upcoming session all the govt. schools of Chhattisgarh will add Odissi dance as a compulsory subject from standard 1 to standard 5.
In order to make the school more interesting and to make the students more expressive, focused and passionate, the govt. has taken the step. Not only that, in a statement to local media, Chhattisgarh govt. has said that the same concept will soon be applied to the senior classes and the teachers will also be instructed to make it more effective. As per the curriculum, the students will be given a CD of Odissi dance to learn about it’s values and history.
Earlier in 2012, in an interview to TOI Odissi dancer Madhavi Mudgal also betted for adding Odissi in national syllabus as compulsory subject. In 2015, Andhra Pradesh also tried to make Kucchipudi dance compulsory in school syllabus including the private schools.
Now all we’ve to see, when our Odisha govt. will introduce these kind of activities and subjects to promote Odisha’s culture and it’s tradition form the school level. What do you think? Should the govt. make it compulsory?
