Seems like the reason to be happy for the people of Odisha isn’t ending. So this time, because Odisha is all set to host the International Tennis Federation (ITF) US $ 15,000 tournament, can we be more excited and thrilled?
Odisha has successfully hosted multiple international sporting events but tennis would be something new this time.
The Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar, capital city of Odisha will be the venue for the first international tennis competition. The tournament which is named as “India future” will begin from February 23 and will last upto March 4 having a prize amount of $ 15,000. All matches are to be played in Kalinga stadium The tournament will be organised Odisha Tennis Association (OTA).
It will have two categories– Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles. Thirty two players will be the part of Singles category while 16 duos will take part in Doubles category. A meeting regarding the tournament took place in the presence of authorities of State Sports Department and Odisha Tennis Association today. “The upcoming ITF tournament will have all International Men players. Of the 32 main draw players, 50 percent are likely to be from outside the country.” said Odisha Tennis Association Secretary, Madhusudan Padhi.
He also said the Odisha government will contribute towards infrastructural development of the tennis complex of Kalinga Stadium for the international tournament. Reportedly, the qualifying matches will be held on February 23, 24 and 25 from which eight players would be selected for the main draw. As many as 22 players would enter the main draw through direct entry, Padhi said, adding that two more players allotted by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) will get a wild card entry during the tournament.
It is a matter of pride for all the Odisha people that Odisha will host its first tennis tournament shortly. After the success of various International sporting events we hope this tennis tournament would be a success too.
